COURSE OVERVIEW
Learn about the requirements of Aerospace AS9100/AS9110/AS9120:2016
As a leader, your commitment and support is crucial to the success of your organisation’s quality management system. This course designed for management at all levels and process and quality leaders, highlights the benefits of a AQMS (Aerospace Quality Management System) and gives an overview of the key requirements of BS EN 9100:2018.
You will get an understanding of both your organisation’s obligations, your personal responsibilities, and how it benefits your customers. This will enable you to develop action plans for implementing key leadership activities.
Find out about what the requirements of AS9100/AS9110/AS9120:2016 are, and why these changes are necessary, how it affects your organisation, and the steps required to update your current QMS.
The course will teach you the specific differences between AS9100/AS9110/AS9120:2009 and AS9100/AS9110/AS9120:2016, the required criteria between the QMS and the business objectives of the organisation, and the reduced procedural requirements and how this will impact what is needed to comply with the 2016 version.
Following course completion, you will have a documented, detailed, formal plan specific to your organisation which will provide the guidance you will need to direct the organisation to meet the requirements of AS9100/AS9110/AS9120:2016.
What is AS 9100?
AS 9100 is a Quality Management System Standard developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) and it is based on ISO 9001 with additions and interpretations specific to the aviation space and defence industry sectors. AS 9100 has some associated standards, including 9110 which is designed for repair and overhaul organisations and 9120 which is designed for distributor stockholders. The 9100 standard is issued in Americas as ‘AS 9100′, in Europe as ‘EN 9100′ and in Asia-Pacific as ‘JIS Q 9100′.
The AS/EN 9100 series of standards
There are 3 main standards in the AS 91XX series:
- AS 9100 – QMS for quality assurance in design, development, production, installation, and servicing
- AS 9110 – QMS for maintenance, repair and overhaul of aerospace/defence parts
- AS 9120 – QMS for quality assurance in stock holding and distribution of aerospace /defence parts
Based on ISO 9001:2015, the latest versions were published in 2016.
Why is AS 9100/9110/9120 important to your organisation?
Certification against 9100/9110/9120 provides evidence that your products and services meet the demanding expectations and standards of the aviation, space and defence sector. It shows that you operate according to internationally agreed and recognised practices for quality management, and is essential to winning contracts worldwide. Benefits include:
- Internationally agreed and recognised practices for quality management in the aviation, space and defence sector.
- A common language for dealing with business customers and suppliers worldwide.
- Increased efficiency and effectiveness.
- Eligibility for inclusion on OASIS – the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System database.
- A proven and standardised system for continual improvements in quality
- The framework delivers excellence for customers and other stakeholders.
Safety, airworthiness, product conformity and reliability are all key aspects of AS9100, the aerospace quality standard. These quality requirements are crucial to aerospace OEMs, which maintain high levels of liability for their product standard. Because product performance can be affected by a failure to handle parts and materials correctly, AS9100 addresses the complexity and diversity of the industry’s supply chain. The standard takes into consideration the complete life cycle of aerospace products.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) defines individual manufacturing approvals through its Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and laws mandating compliance. Consequently, AS9100 is fast becoming a prerequisite for manufacturing companies in the aerospace business, as many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) only work with suppliers that are certified to the aerospace standard. Also, many International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) member companies have implemented AS9100 within their own organisations.
AS9100 Gives Your organisation a Competitive Advantage
When your organisation adopts the aerospace AS9100 standard, it not only reaps quality and efficiency benefits, but also is better able to meet customer expectations. It can also provide a competitive advantage by:
- Reducing the number of customer audits required, and thus reducing required resources;
- Aerospace Experienced Auditors (AEAs) can identify opportunities for improvements in operational processes and reduction of cost;
- Improved audit and surveillance efficiency;
- Enhanced supplier performance due to higher quality, reduction of waste, and a focus on customer satisfaction;
- Streamlined procedures and system documentation.
AS9100 Improves Your Business
The aerospace quality standard is based on ISO 9001:2000, with almost 100 additional requirements specific to aerospace. AS9100 provides suppliers with a comprehensive quality system focused on areas directly impacting product safety and reliability in the aerospace industry, including:
Configuration Management – requires that a management discipline be applied over the life cycle of an aerospace product to provide visibility and control of its functional and physical characteristics;
Product Realisation – ensures that each phase of product realisation, from planning to shipment, is tightly controlled for delivery of conforming product;
Design – ensures that design responsible organisations have a robust design process to meet safety and reliability requirements demanded by the aerospace industry;
Purchasing – requires suitable controls over the organisation’s entire aerospace supply chain;
Product Monitoring/Measurement – that defines requirements for product validation prior to shipment.
*This course can be tailored to your requirements and delivered ‘in-house’ at your premises or in one of our well equipped training venues.
